The Only Triathlon Gear Recommendation List You'll Ever Need
EVERYTHING we use for swim, bike, run.
We get questions like these a lot.
What’s a good wetsuit for a beginner?
What are the best cycling bibs?
What bike saddle do you use?
What’s your favorite running shoe?
Gear recommendations are among the most searched topics on the web related to triathlon. It’s easy to see why.
You not only have three different sports to consider, but they’re three highly specialized sports.
For the beginner, the amount of gear you need for a triathlon can be a bit overwhelming, and the seasoned triathlete is always looking for upgrades to enhance performance.
As a triathlon journalist, I’ve gotten to test out A LOT of products. Also, my husband loves new triathlon toys, so name something and we’ve probably used it. (A new tubeless tire set up and bike saddle arrived in the mail last night…)
So I had the idea to create a comprehensive gear list with EVERYTHING we use for triathlon.
Now when I say everything, I mean it.
This list is a compilation of all the kit, tech, and nutrition we use for daily training and races. It covers wetsuits, goggles, trisuits, glasses, bikes, tires, saddles, watches, running shoes, recovery tools, nutrition, training apps, and much more.
We’re calling it the “Vermeer Gear List.” ;) Click the link below for the FREE download- a little thank you for being a subscriber.

Also, we’re working on lining up the speaker list for monthly Zoom calls for paid subscribers. Let us know who you’re interested in hearing from.

News & Notes: Latest Published Work
1- What’s a Triathlon Talent Scout? I interviewed Tim Yount of USA Triathlon to get the inside scoop on the Talent Scout program and their big push to create local, high school-aged triathlon clubs across the country.
“When we started this program, I wrote a plea saying we’re at a crossroad in this sport where the demographic is getting older,” Yount says. “We were missing a pathway for athletes to go from youth to high school to collegiate club or NCAA. High school is the step we were missing.”
2- #3 of XTERRA Stories of Stride and Spirit- If you don’t shed a tear during this one, it will sincerely cause me to question my faith in humanity. It was her father’s second cancer diagnosis that Emily Tolman found solace in trail running.
“‘Dare to be great,’ echoes my father’s voice. It’s a mantra that reverberated before every competition, exam, or pivotal moment. From soccer pitches to ice arenas and track meets, he never missed a beat, always there to lace up our shoes and instill in us the courage to face life’s challenges head-on.”- Emily Tolman
3- An Open-Water Expert Explains How to Swim in a Current. I spoke with “Coach Leo” Briceno, an open water swim expert to uncover 7 keys for swimming in current.
4- Triple Threat Life has a new group chat! It’s a place to talk about triathlon, training, ask questions, be inspired, and just connect. Check it out.
